Why Every Hunting Team Needs a Veteran Partner

Including a veteran on your hog‑hunting team strengthens the hunt, supports healing, and honors community service.

Our tournament asks each crew to bring a veteran along. It is not a formality; it is a way to give back to those who have served while adding purpose to the day on the field.

Veterans often find the rhythm of the hunt to be a grounding experience. With about 23 veterans a day lost to suicide in this country, a shared outdoor activity can provide connection, responsibility and a sense of belonging that matters beyond the woods.

Hunters benefit too. A veteran brings discipline, safety awareness and a steady hand, qualities that improve the success of the hunt and keep the group safe. The partnership creates a two‑way learning environment where skills and stories are exchanged.

When we control feral hogs we protect Louisiana farms from roughly 76 million dollars of damage each year. The meat we harvest is sent to food kitchens, families in need and the veterans themselves, while proceeds support the Fredrick Hebert VFW Post 4158, Hero Hunts and other veteran assistance programs.

If you are forming a team, reach out to Troops & Tusks to connect with a veteran who is ready to hunt. A simple phone call can start a partnership that benefits the land, the community and the individuals involved.
